Meet the Obsidian

Leadership Team

Smoky

Co-Founder, General Management

Smoky (she/her) is a black queer femme who is a sub at play, and the HBIC in all other things. She has been exploring her kink side from the day she started exploring her sexuality in general. She started exploring the LA Kink Community in the early 20-teens and quickly discovered that as a QTIBIPOC, it was not a welcoming or comfortable place to play.

Smoky met Aungel in December of 2017. They soon spit-balled the idea of creating a QTBIPOC Kink space in LA. The two instantly started meeting regularly and Obsidian was born February 14th, 2018! Together they built the foundation of this QTBIPOC lead and focused organization that not only throws play parties but also creates community and provides safe and affordable access to kink education. There is nothing else like us in the US!

Outside of her work on the Leadership Team Smoky is an artist, musician, costumer, and dreamer. She volunteers regularly at black queer organizations. She also happens to have a full time corporate job. This woman stays busy! Catch her at most Obsidian events, please stop and say hi!

Josie

Administrative Management

Josie (She/They) is a gender non-binary queer professional switch. Having worked in the sex industry for 6 years, Josie is passionate about connecting and uplifting queer BIPOC sex workers, and spreading anti-policing safety strategies. Josie is also committed to the queer arts Cantonese community, and educating her community on critical race and anti-Blackness.

After working behind the scenes for Obsidian this past year on administration, and general organizing and management for our events, Josie will be relocating to the Bay Area - though she is committed to continue supporting Obsidian and will remain a part of the core Leadership Team.

Josie will continue to work behind the scenes, answering your emails and otherwise taking care of business.

If you don't see Josie at events but are looking to reach out, please do so! They are always open to making new connections.

Orion

Social Outreach Pup

Pup Star Orion (He/Him) aka Danny War is Obsidian LA’s Social Outreach Puppy. He has a busy calendar of social events he attends, and he represents Obsidian at all of them. He also reaches out to other organizations on Obsidian’s behalf to collaborate with our community.

He is LA Pup 2020-21!

Orion is a trans genderfluid leather person. Identifying as a leather boy, leather bull terrier pup, switch, community service dog, and as a soft queer daddy. Educating on subjects like dark pet play, how identity and ability level affect aspects of play, and playing with trans and disabled bodies.

You can catch him at most Obsidian events sneaking treats, getting stomped on, or trying to take in a queer cutie’s fist.

Sunshine

Social Media Manager

Sunshine (They/Them/It/Its) is a trans non-binary, Afro Panamanian, Switch, dancer, filmmaker, and adventurer.

An active member of the BDSM community, Sunshine has set out to promote and create safe spaces for QTI BIPOC kinksters and leather folks in the Los Angeles area. You may have seen them in your friendly-neighborhood dungeon or shaking that ass for Cruise LA, Lez Croix, and Cake LA (to name a few). When not shaking for tips, you can find it wagging for treats; pupping it up, or sadistically electrocuting their friends with a sweet smile on their face.

Sunshine manages the social media presence for Obsidian and keeps our community aware of not only what the organization has planned, but also the things we care about.

Row

Treasurer & Organization Growth Management

Pup handler, cigar enthusiast, and succulent sadist, Rogelio Ruckus aka: Daddy Row (He/Him) is a Los Angeles based hard-of-hearing, trans, chicano/indigenous professional dominant.

Row works with obsidian to manage the group as it continues to grow. He is creating bylaws, budgets, and keeping us all in line!

Founder of Ruckus Pet Pack, an exclusive social club for trans and non-binary pet players, Row utilizes his experiences advocating for the institutionally & systematic under-served and marginalized to manifest events that uplift and center QTBIPOC beyond the margins of kink and leather culture.

His events have included an ode to traditional “munch culture”: Kinky Brunch, a bi-monthly QTBIPOC Pet Mosh & Handler Social, Kinky Speed Dating, and Trans-Centered Play Parties.

In October 2019, Row became the first Los Angeles based Mx. title holder as the current Mx. Cruise Los Angeles Leather 2020.

Fix

Venue Liaison & Volunteer Coordinator

Mx. Fix (They/Them) is a first generation Angelino from migrant parents. They identify as a non-binary latinx queer.

When it comes to kink/BDSM it's something that Fix has been around for a long time. It isn't until a few years ago that they actually started participating in it themselves. In their kink/BDSM journey Fix discovered that they also identify as a romantic sadist who also has a deep love for fisting. Fisting is the first kink Fix truly engaged in which is actually what got them to go down this wonderful rabbit hole that they continue to enthusiastically explore today.

Fix is happy to have found a place that is lead by and for QTBIPOC folx in which they can feel comfortable exploring these things. They’re honored to come on the Leadership Team as the venue liaison and volunteer coordinator and see this group continue to grow and help others explore in safe and brave spaces for us.

Son

Administrative Assistant

Son (They/Them) is a Vietnamese-American trans non-binary queer sub. They have organized around queer and POC identities and active transportation. They are eager to put their time and dedication towards administration for Obsidian.

In exploring kink, they found transformation in interpersonal communication and new modes of expression. It's the love and fun of BDSM that drives their service of the kinky queer and trans BIPOC community.

They’re a passionate rock climber (always down to take new and experienced people outside and show them the ropes), aspiring leather worker, and a proud bio-doggo parent to the most anxious yet lovable pup.
